Recipes from Locke Store’s Mixology Class

If you missed our mixology class (or came and lost your packet), here are the recipes we used, plus more! The mixers and non-hard liquor bases can be purchased at Locke Store.

Recipes from the class:

Lavender Whisper
½ oz VYA Whisper Dry Vermouth
½ oz Royal Rose Lavender-Lemon Simple Syrup
Divide between 2 flutes, top each with
4-6 oz of dry sparkling wine.

Sake Sunrise
2 oz Dai Ginjo Sake
1 oz Lemon juice
¾ oz Royal Rose Hot Ginger-Lime simple syrup
Dash Jack Rudy Aromatic Bitters
Shake with ice and double-strain into a coupe glass.
Pour ½ oz Jack Rudy Grenadine though the drink.

Pretty in Peach
4 oz Contratto Americano
2 oz Shrub & Co Peach shrub

Madonna Mule
3 oz Shrub & Co Spicy Ginger shrub
½ oz lime juice
½ oz Royal Rose Cardamom-Clove simple syrup
Dash of Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit bitters
Add all ingredients in a glass with ice.
Top with sparkling water and stir well.

Spanish Kiss
1 ½ oz Bodegas Hidalgo “Napoleon” Dry Amontillado Sherry
¾ oz Royal Rose Saffron simple syrup
½ oz Lime juice
Dash Bittermens Hellfire Habanero shrub
Shake with ice and double-strain into a nick & nora glass.

Tiki Torch
2 oz VYA Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Shrub & Co Blood Orange & Cardamom Shrub
Dash Bittermens “Elemakule Tiki” bitters

White Port Cobbler
3 oz Ferreira White Port
¾ oz Giffard Orgeat Syrup
3 Dashes Jack Rudy Bitters
1 orange slice
Muddle the orange slice with the Jack Rudy Bitters.
Shake with the remaining ingredients.

Tres Leches
1 oz PX (Pedro Ximinez) Sherry
1 oz Blandy’s 5 year Madiera
1 oz Heavy cream
1 whole egg
Dry shake with all ingredients 30 seconds.
Shake with ice 30 seconds and pour into a nick & nora glass.

 

Recipes for Bittermens’ Bitters

Ready Fire Aim
Created by Steve Schneider of NYC’s Employees Only.
1.75oz Mezcal Joven
1oz Honey-Pineapple Syrup
.75oz Pineapple Juice
.5oz Lime Juice
3 dashes Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub
Add all ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a grind of pink peppercorn.

The 700 Songs Gimlet
The Shanty at New York Distilling Company, Brooklyn, NY
1.5oz Navy Strength Gin
.75oz Lime Juice
.5oz Simple Syrup
.25oz Cinnamon Syrup
5 drops Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Among Dreams
This Manhattan-inspired cocktail was created by Turk Dietrich of Cure in New Orleans, LA
2oz Sweet Vermouth Carpano Antica
.5oz Chartreuse Green
.5oz Rye
9 drops Bittermens ‘Elemakule Tiki Bitters
7 drops Aromatic Bitters
Combine liquid ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Cider a la Minute
Created by Heather Mojer – Hungry Mother, Cambridge, MA
.25 Apple, Grated
1 pinch Cinnamon
1 pinch Nutmeg
.33oz Becherovka
.25oz Falernum Velvet
1.5oz Ron Zacapa 23
2 dashes Bittermens ‘Elemakule Tiki Bitters
Ginger Beer
Shake and strain into an ice filled collins glass. Top with 2 dashes Bittermens ‘Elemakule Tiki Bitters and ginger beer

South of North (Amended)
A Brian Miller original. Death and Company, 2007.
1.5oz Fino or Manzanilla Sherry
1.5oz Jack Rudy Elderflower Tonic
.5oz Lime Juice
1dash Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit Bitters
3oz Sparkling wine
Shake all ingredients aside from the sparkling wine. Strain into a Collins glass or flute filled with ice cubes. Top with sparkling wine.

Shandygaff
The Golden Dawn, Auckland, New Zealand
1.5oz Gin
3oz Lager
3oz Ginger Beer
Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit Bitters
Fill a beer glass with ice, add gin and beer, stir quickly, then top with ginger beer. Finish with 3 lemon wedges and a couple of dashes of Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit bitters atop the glass.

 

Recipes for Royal Rose Simple Syrups

Moscow Mule
1 1/2 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. Royal Rose Ginger Lime Syrup
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
4-6 oz. soda water
Combine vodka, syrup, and lime juice and shake with ice. Strain in to a Collins glass filled with ice; top with soda water.

Maine Cooler
Created by Andrew Volk of the Portland Hunt & Alpine Club in Portland, Maine.
1.5 oz vodka (London dry-style works great)
0.75 oz Royal Rose Lavender-Lemon syrup
0.75 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain over fresh ice into a Collins glass. Fill with soda.

Brooklyn Punch
Light and refreshing. Vodka works well instead of gin, if you prefer, or skip the alcohol altogether.
1 bottle Royal Rose Lavender-Lemon Syrup (8 oz.)
juice of 1 juicy lemon
1 pint lemon sorbet
3-4 sprigs rosemary, bruised (roll them between your hands)
1 cup dry sparkling wine
1 cup gin
1 liter soda water, or more or less to taste
Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl. Add a block of ice, or ice glasses individually.

World’s End
2 1/2 oz. white rum
1/2 oz. Royal Rose Cardamom-Clove Syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a Boston shaker over ice and shake vigorously. Serve straight up with a lemon wedge.

Apple Cider Toddy
1 cup apple cider
3/4 oz. Royal Rose Cardamom Clove Syrup, or to taste
squeeze of fresh lemon juice
shot of bourbon (optional)
freshly grated cinnamon
Heat the apple cider, syrup, and lemon in a small saucepan. Off heat, add the bourbon and pour into a mug. Grate cinnamon on top and enjoy!

Saffron Sour
Recipe by Andrew Volk of Portland Hunt & Alpine.
1 1/2 oz. Fernet-Branca
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. saffron syrup
1/2 oz. fresh egg white
Add all ingredients to a shaker. Dry shake for five seconds (no ice). Add ice and shake hard for 15 seconds. Fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Orange & Spice & Everything Nice
All those winter flavors you crave, like gingersnap, cinnamon, and orange:
1 oz. Snap liqueur
1 oz. whiskey
1 oz. fresh orange juice
1/2 oz. Royal Rose Saffron Syrup
3-4 dashes citrus bitters
Combine ingredients over ice and shake vigorously. Serve on the rocks with an orange twist.

Recipes for Shrub & Co. Shrubs

Sweet Bee Soda
1.5 oz Shrub & Co Blood Orange
.75 oz Shrub & Co Honey
4 oz sparkling water
Fill glass with desired amount of ice, add shrub and pour sparkling water. Stir well. Yields one 8 oz soda.

Billion Dollar Dream
2 oz rye
1/2 oz Shrub & Co Blood Orange Cardamom
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
Absinthe rinse
Build ingredients over ice and shake. Strain and serve up in an absinthe rinsed glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

Summer Peach
2 oz Whiskey
1/2 oz Shrub & Co Peach
1/2 oz Cocchi Americano
3 dashes of Bittermens Hellfire bitters
Build ingredients in a cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake well and strain into glass.

Shrub Bellini
3 – 4 oz sparkling wine
3/4 oz Shrub & Co Peach
1/4 oz fresh lemon juice (optional)
Pour shrub and lemon juice into a champagne flute. Add sparkling wine and enjoy.

The Austrian
1 ½ oz gin
¾ oz Lillet Blanc or Cocchi Americano
½ oz Shrub & Co Spicy Ginger
¼ oz grapefruit juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Splash of fresh lemon juice
Add all ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass. Garnish with cracked white pepper.

Dark and Stormy
2 oz dark rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz Shrub & Co Spicy Ginger
3 to 4 oz club soda
Combine rum, lime and shrub in a shaker over ice. Strain into an ice filled glass, then splash with club soda. Stir well and serve.

Bee’s Knees
2 oz gin
3/4 oz Shrub & Co Honey
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker, then add ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Honey Shrub Fizz
2 oz Smooth Ambler Bourbon
1/2 oz Shrub & Co Honey
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
Dash of bitters
Club soda
Add bourbon, shrub and lemon juice to a Collins glass. Fill with crushed ice, stir and splash with club soda and a dash of bitters.

 

Recipes for Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. Products

Jack and the Beanstalk
In a shaker tin with ice, combine:
1.5 ounces Bluecoat Gin
.75 ounces Aperol
1/3 ounces Jack Rudy Small Batch Tonic
.25 ounces Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit
Shake, strain and serve up with a flamed orange peel

Ginny Rose
1.5 oz New Amsterdam Gin
0.75 oz Jack Rudy Tonic Syrup
3 oz Belvoir Elderflower-Rose Presse
2 oz soda water
Stir, garnish with lemon wheel and edible red flower petals

Jack Rose
In a shaker tin with ice, combine:
1.5 ounces Applejack
.5 ounces Jack Rudy Grenadine
.5 ounces Lime Juice
Shake then double strain into a chilled cocktail glass

Maiden’s Blush
In a shaker tin with ice, combine:
2 ounces Gin
.5 ounces Cointreau
.5 ounces Fresh Lemon Juice
.25 ounces Jack Rudy Grenadine
Shake then double strain into a chilled cocktail coupe

Jack Rudy Elderflower Gin & Tonic Recipe
2 ounces Gin
3/4 ounce Jack Rudy Elderflower Tonic
5 ounces Soda Water
Shake the Gin and Elderflower Tonic then strain into a chilled glass. Top with soda.

Elderflower Lift
In a shaker tin with ice, combine:
¾ oz Vodka
¾ oz Jack Rudy Elderflower Tonic
Shake and strain into a flute. Top with sparkling wine.
