Ànima Negra Quibia 2020

Origin: Mallorca, Spain
Retail: $20.95 | Sale $18.85

Quibia gets its name from a aspirational worry-free state of mind. The wine is the brainchild of Miquelangel Cerda and his partner, Pere Obrador celebrating the versitility of the indigenous red grape, Callet, which is the common thread through all their wines. The Callet lends texture and tartness. The Premsal adds roundness while Giro Ros gives the backbone of acidity. The three grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks followed by 4 months of lees aging. The influence of the Mediterranean sea gives this wine its salinity. The color is an enticing straw-lemon in color with greenish highlights. Quíbia has aromas of white peach, pear, sea brine and jasmine. On the palate the wine is weighty with silky olive oil texture and concentrated flavors of ripe peach, Anjou pear and capers. Crisp, lively and well balanced.

Evening Land ‘Seven Springs’ Chardonnay 2017

Origin: Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
Retail: $41.95 | Sale $37.75

Vineyard sensitivity incorporates understanding a site’s unique aspect, altitude, daily amount of sunlight, average annual rainfall, soil pH, row direction, and beyond. At Seven Springs, they’ve learned that their soils have a very high moisture content, despite thriving in a rather hot and sunny climate, due to its composition. Because of the soils’ high clay content, water from spring rainfalls is thus retained within them, forgoing the need for any form of irrigation during the warm summer season. The Estate Chardonnay comes from a unique block of young vines at the southern edge of Seven Springs. With vines running right up to a rich forest of Douglas fir, these Burgundian clones of Chardonnay face northwest with a view across the entire vineyard. The Seven Springs Chardonnay underwent a very gentle whole cluster press before being racked to French oak barrels for fermentation. The wine remained in barrel, roughly 30% of which was new, for 12 months before being racked to tank. The wine completed élevage in tank for another 6 months before bottling. The aromatics straddle the line between richness and brightness and the palate begins with a generous texture and closes with a vibrant, delineated finish.

Suavia ‘Monte Carbonare’ Soave 2018

Origin: Veneto, Italy
Retail: $29.95 | Sale $26.95

We always say that this wine is a bit like ‘Earth in a glass’ and it’s true. The vines sink their roots deep into the black earth ; pure volcano. This gives the wine personality. It tastes of rain on flint - that gracious fragrance that the countryside releases when dampened by the first rain. The name Monte Carbonare (namely “the hill of coal”) comes from the dark volcanic soil reminiscent of coal. Straw yellow in color with brilliant highlights that shine in the glass. Yellow flowers, exotic fruit and white peach play together with smoky and peaty notes on the nose. Generous fruit on the palate are accented with mineral, aromatic herbs and almond alongside crisp acidity. The finish is dry and very persistent.

100% Garganega

Loimer Brut Rosé Reserve N/V

Origin: Niederösterreich, Austria
Retail: $35.95 | Sale: $32.35

Fred Loimer’s wines are among the very best examples of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling in Austria. He began practicing biodynamics in 2006 and is a founding member of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture. His estate near the village of Langenlois in the Kamptal region includes several prestigious single-vineyards, and his winery is a model of modern efficiency. Wines intended for immediate enjoyment are vinified in stainless-steel tanks while single-vineyard wines are aged in traditional large barrels and spend an extended time maturing on their lees. His philosophy is one of non-intervention and patience. This Brut Rosé Reserve is a blend of Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, and Sankt Laurent from biodynamically-farmed vineyards in Langenlois and Gumpoldskirchen. The wine is made in the traditional method using indigenous yeasts for alcoholic fermentation followed by full malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. It is aged for eighteen months on the lees in bottle before disgorgement and finished with a low dosage. Loimer Brut Rosé Reserve shows the red-fruit aromas typical of Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, and St. Laurent with notes of fresh strawberries and cherries accented by young herbs and flowers. The palate shows firm acidity while 18-months aging on the lees in the bottle provides weight and texture. Sekt Rosé based on red grapes such as this one can be an excellent partner to meatier dark fish such as grilled salmon or seared Ahi tuna. Brut Rosé as are dishes with root vegetables, mushrooms, and eggplant.

Botromagno ’Rose di Lulu’ Nero di Troia Murgia Rosato 2020

Origin: Puglia, Italy
Retail: $17.95 | Sale $16.15

In 1991, the D’Agostino family merged with the local cooperative winery, creating Botromagno, the first successful example of a privately owned winery partnered with more than 100 local grape growers. The D’Agostino family has been able to foster a reliable and efficient synergy with the local farmers; based on strict standards for quality grape growing, they have rapidly become one of the finest wineries in Puglia. The winery is located in the town of Gravina in Puglia. The Gravina DOC, which is named after the town, is one of Puglia’s most important appellations. Rosé di Lulù features fruit from the single-vineyard Vigna de Trono planted over 50 years ago to Nero di Troia. Aromatic and highly savory in character, Nero di Troia is a grape variety native to Puglia. Botromagno excels in producing red wines from this grape, and has also turned to making a rosato with great success. Sandy soils and high elevation (600 meters a.s.l.) intensify the aromatic profile of this rosato, building a robust red berry and cherry profile. You will find more of a commanding structure and defined textural element on the palate. It's utilitarian flexibility holds no bias at the table; it excels with roasted vegetables, white meats and richer crudo.

Evening Land Seven Springs Pinot Noir 2019

Origin: Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
Retail: $42.95 | Sale $38.65

The 2019 Seven Springs Pinot Noir comes primarily from our oldest block of Pinot Noir at the vineyard. Originally planted in 1982, these Pommard clones thrive in iron-rich, volcanic Jory soils. These 39-year-old dry-farmed vines are harvested by hand, the grapes are hand-sorted, and roughly 90% of the fruit was destemmed. A combination of gentle punch downs and pumpovers were employed throughout the fermentation to encourage a soft extraction of tannin and the wine was aged in neutral French oak for 14 months. Sashi’s holistic vineyard views were shared by Raj Parr, and upon meeting, the pair blossomed a tight friendship over a number of years. Compelled by their dedication to these values, Sashi and Raj founded Sandhi in 2011, followed by Domaine de la Côte in 2013. Today, the duo owns vineyards and produces wine in Oregon’s Willamette Valley at Evening Land Vineyards. Our 2019 Seven Springs Pinot Noir leads with a bright aromatics of fresh red fruits, black tea, and a subtle undercurrent of forest floor. On the palate the wine is exquisitely pure and brilliant with a lively mid-palate and a focused finish.

Musar ‘Jeune Rouge’ 2019

Origin: Bekka Valley, Lebanon
Retail: $22.95 | Sale $20.65

Musar Jeune Red vines are from the organically certified vineyards in the western Bekaa Valley. 2019 was an abnormal weather year in Lebanon with 3 months of continuous rain and snow but this was a welcome relief after successive years of drought. May was mild with rain and sun but overall this was not a year of intense heat, resulting in red wines of somewhat discreet aromas but concentrated palates with lots of depth and layers. The grapes were fermented in concrete vats and finished unfiltered and made according to the natural wine-making philosophy. Aromas of cherry, ripe berry fruits and violet notes welcome you into the glass. This unoaked red is wonderfully fresh and full of ripe berry fruit. Excellent acidity keeps the wine vibrant within a medium to full bodied textured palate. The 2019 vintage is fresh and fruity and designed to be enjoyed in its youth.

Elizabeth Spencer Grenache 2018

Origin: Mendocino, California
Retail: $27.95 | Sale $25.15

Elizabeth Spencer Winery is built on the importance of strong relationships–starting with our proprietor’s own dynamic personal and professional bond and extending outward to our important network of growers, our talented team of employees, and, ultimately to our customers. Elizabeth Spencer Winery is the realization of a dream by husband and wife team of Spencer Graham and Elizabeth Pressler. Their straight bottling of grenache is sourced from two vineyards, separated from each other by only a few miles. Both sites enjoyed a measured, uneventful growing season and were harvested within days of each other. They worked closely with the growers to regulate crop size, allowing each vine to carry only as many clusters as could perfectly ripen. The wine is lively and light on the palate, with an acidity that refreshes and supports the fruit flavors. Black cherry, strawberry, and a subtle zestiness linger on the finish. Serve slightly chilled on a warm summer evening or pair with your favorite fall dishes.

Ànima Negra ‘AN2’ Falanis 2018

Origin: Mallorca, Spain
Retail $29.95 | Sale $26.95

Ànima Negra was founded in 1994 when two self-taught friends — Pere Ignasi Obrador and Miquelàngel Cerdà — decided that the wines of their native Mallorca weren’t reaching full potential. Taking advantage of some unused milk tanks at the dairy farm owned by Pere’s family, they made two barriques of wine from Callet grapes (a native Mallorcan varietal) they’d purchased from local farmers. The initial results were so encouraging that the friends decided to form a partnership and continue pursuing their newly found passion for wine. ÀN/2 is a perfect introduction to the wines of Mallorca. This unique red is made from old vine Callet, Mantonegre-Fogoneu and Syrah fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete—macerated only briefly to retain the freshness and flavors of the fully ripe fruit. Aged for just over one year in a combination of 80% French barriques and 20% American oak. Deep ruby-red in color, ÀN/2 has complex aromas of savory spices, wild raspberries, dark cherry fruit and a hint of violets and smokiness. On the palate the wine is silky and elegant with intense flavors of mature fruit.

65% Callet | 20% Mantonegre-Fogoneu | 15% Syrah
