Tellurian Fiano 2024
Origin: Australia
Retail:$34.95| Sale: $31.46
Founded in 2002 by Ian Hopkins, Tellurian is a family-owned and organically managed winery located on the ancient Cambrian soils of central Victoria. The Tellurian vineyard sits on the famed red Cambrian earth of Heathcote; mineral-rich soils formed more than 500 million years ago. This rare geology, combined with warm days, cool nights, and long growing season, provides ideal conditions for producing wines with intensity, structure, and remarkable balance. Native to southern Italy, the Fiano grape was chosen for its suitability to thrive in Heathcote’s climate, though the seasons are opposite!
Fowles “Are You Game?” Chardonnay 2023
Origin: Australia
Retail: $24.95| Sale:$22.46
Fowles is nestled in the heart of the Strathbogie Ranges, where ancient granite boulders lie remarkably. The location of the Strathbogie Ranges, north of Great Dividing range and 1.5 hours northeast of Melbourne, means the vineyards experience strong diurnal weather patterns – warm days, cool nights. Lower rainfall and quick draining soils mean our vines produce low yielding, flavourful fruit. This Chardonnay also consists of 9% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Riesling. Most notable of this vineyard is their use of the “BatNav System:” a series of interventional structures designed mimic natural landscape cues and subtly steer microbats into pest-rich zones, extending their predation distance and “feeding zone” to increase their feeding efficiency, thus further reducing pest populations in the vineyards.
Planeta Rosé 2024
Origin: Italy
Retail: $15.95| Sale: $14.36
Traveling through Sicily as a vast wine continent, Planeta has founded their estates in five different territories from west to east, seeking their own interpretation through research on native grape varieties, including those long forgotten, and on the adaptability of different terroirs to also accommodate international varieties. Established in 1995, Planeta has been actively involved in multiple sustainability projects as well as community outreach. The entire cultivated area (vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards, and cereals) is certified organic. This rosé is a blend of 40% Nero d'Avola, 40% Syrah, 20% “other varieties” (Sauvignon Blanc) sourced from their Dispensa and Gurra vineyards consisting of chalk and lime.
The Fledge & Co. Souzão
Origin: South Africa
Retail: $19.95| Sale:$17.96
In collaboration with Boplaas, a South African distillery, Fledge & Co. presents this experimental red wine made from a grape traditionally used for port. The real collaboration is between Margaux of Boplaas, a seventh-generation winemaker, and Leon, co-owner of Fledge & Co (and Margaux’s husband). The producer doesn't own vineyards, but are exceptionally fortunate to work with some of the finest vines and growers scattered across the Cape. Leon refers to this style of winemaking as “terroir by truck.” This bottle comes from a series labeled “Jikken Barrels,” meaning experimental barrels in Japanese. South African wine made with a Portuguese grape and labeled in Japanese. It’s unique for a lot of reasons.
