In almost a century of history, Mottura has made great steps forward, changing and growing as wine-making on the Salento peninsula has evolved and changed for the better. As early as the 1940s, big iron-ringed barrels of Mottura wines were loaded onto northbound trains in Tuglie, headed for three  Naples, Rome, and Milan where the wines of Salento were distributed and appreciated. The estate wanted to go beyond this, and in the 1960s it became one of the first wineries in the area to bottle its own wine. Bright straw-yellow in color, its bouquet has delicate floral notes of jasmine, elderflower, and wild rose. Its taste is pleasant, fresh, balanced, caressing, and tangy.  100% Fiano

Villa Mottura Stilio Primitivo di Manduria 2021

Origin: Puglia, Italy
Retail:
$24.95 | Sale:  $22.46

In recent years, Stilio red wine has been added to Mottura’s range of wines. It is made from grapes selected from low-yield vineyards in the area of Manduria. One part of the grapes used to make this wine is slightly raisonated on the vine, which concentrates the aromas before harvesting, thanks to a slight drying and resulting 20-30% loss of water. The label recalls the ancient cultural tradition of the “taranta” in Salento, rediscovered in recent years: a stylised jewel-like spider on a black background. The symbolism of the spider, the “taranta”, is important. Its bite triggers the need for dancing, music, and colors, with a cathartic effect. Austere bouquet of fruit preserve, marasca cherry, and prune and developed notes of vanilla and cloves 100% Primitivo
