Kelley Fox Willamette Blanc 2020

Kelley Fox Willamette Blanc 2020

Origin: Willamette Valley, Oregon
Retail:
$29.95 | Sale: $26.96

Kelley Fox Wines is a small winery created in 2007 along with Gerson "Gus" Stearns.. The first vintage (2007) started with just over 100 cases. She now works with many historic vineyards throughout Willamette; Maresh Vineyard, Hyland Vineyard, Freedom Hill Vineyard , Weber Vineyard, Durant Vineyard , Dux Vineyard,  Carter Vineyard, and Canary Hill Vineyard. The Willamette Blanc 2020 is made from 70% Weber Vineyard Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. All of the Pinot and Chardonnay in this bottling were pressed immediately after picking to avoid any skin contact. The blanc de Pinot Noir spent six months aging sur-lie in stainless tanks and the chardonnay  six months in neutral French oak barrels, undergoing complete  malolactic fermentation. The Willamette Blanc is a brilliantly transparent, very light rose-gold color. One can easily see that this is a blanc de noir! It is not a rosé. The nose smells of fresh oceanic air, sweet rain and minerals. There are touches of citrus, blossoms, and strawberry, and it is a solid everyday “farmhouse” wine.

Domaine St Cyr Morgon ‘Les Charmes’ 2019

Domaine St Cyr Morgon ‘Les Charmes’ 2019

Origin: Beaujolais, France
Retail: $29.95 | Sale: $26.96

Four generations of the Saint-Cyr family have been vignerons in Beaujolais; founded originally by Raphaël’s great-grandfather and until recently was known as Domaine de Bellevue. His decision to convert to organics wasn’t just a choice, he felt that it was more like an obligation to himself, his family and those around him. Having witnessed close family relatives get sick from the use of chemicals to treat their vines he couldn’t stomach the idea of continuing that type of farming. All 23 hectares of his vines are certified organic (since 2012), which makes Saint-Cyr one of the largest in all of Beaujolais with this certification. He also employs some biodynamic practices in his vineyards. From the legendary Les Charmes site in Morgon, the bottling is produced with the highest elevation grown fruit in the Saint-Cyr line-up. The vines are grown on red schist and white granite soils. The fruit undergoes carbonic maceration for two weeks, then spends 8 months in used barrels and 2 months in tank. This wine  is unfined and unfiltered. 100% Gamay

Carl Ehrhard Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Kabinett 2018

Carl Ehrhard Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Kabinett 2018

Origin: Rheingau, Germany
Retail: $22.95 | Sale: $20.66

Weingut Carl Ehrhard is an historic family estate and winery situated on Germany’s Rhein River in the town of Rüdesheim.  It was founded in 1815 and Carl took over the vineyard  from his father in 1998.  Carl strives to make wines endowed with personality that express the unique character of his vineyards.  In Carl’s words, he achieves this by “following the nature” and “returning to the roots.”  Specifically, this means all the grapes are grown 100% organically and biodynamically.  Fermentation occurs spontaneously from indigenous yeasts, and it is slow.  Fermentation and aging only take place in 1200L or 600L neutral oak barrels.  The finished wines are not filtered or fined.  Some of Carl’s Rieslings are produced using a traditional wooden basket press, skin contact, and natural stabilization with no added sulfur. The Roseneck vineyard is named for the Rosenhecken, or rose hedges that grow on its rocky edges. The vineyard has two very distinct sections. This wine is produced from the western side where the slopes are very steep and composed of quartzite and red slate. As evidenced here, this part of the vineyard produces more delicate, mineral driven wines. Select grapes are hand-picked. Fermentation occurs spontaneously and naturally from ambient yeasts. This slow, gentle transformation lasts around seven weeks until the cold winter temperatures stop it naturally, leaving around 50 grams per liter of natural sugar. The wine is then filtered gently and bottled. This is an aromatic, lithe, yet intense Riesling with pure fruit flavors and delicate minerality. It is off dry but the sugar is not sweet like candy, but fresh like ripe fruit. The finish is balanced by gentle acidity. 100% Riesling
