Cricova Blanc de Noirs NV

Origin:
Cricova, Republic of Moldova
Retail:
$19.95 | Sale: $17.96

The wine cellars of Cricova are the second largest in Moldova, after Milestii Mici (the largest in the world). The winery was founded in 1952 and is one of the oldest wineries to produce high quality wines in the Republic of Moldova. It is a pearl of the Moldovan wine that represents a unique underground city well-known all over the world by its huge labyrinths. Tunnels have existed under Cricova since the 15th century, when limestone was dug out to help build Chişinău. Half of the roadways, located 100 meters underground, are used for wine storage, housing over one million bottles of rare wine. Cricova is the first enterprise in Moldova which makes sparkling wine using the technology "Méthode Traditionnelle" and this pinot noir was crafted based on that method, with a second in-bottle fermentation for a minimum of 24 months. Elegant with fine bubbles, light yellow straw color, delicate aromas, fruitiness and fine minerality of the taste. Excellent on its own and a great companion to oysters, red or black caviar, cheeses and walnuts or almonds, but also pairs well with more complex dishes like pasta or risotto. 100% Pinot Noir

Domaine de la Bêche Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2021

Origin:
Beaujolais, France
Retail:
$17.95 | Sale: $16.16

Domaine de la Bêche was founded deep in the hills of Beaujolais in 1848. Olivier Depardon, the family’s 7th generation, took the reins in 1985 with 4 acres of vines and over the years this industrious man increased the domain’s holdings to 65 acres. Most are in AOP Morgon, followed by Regnié and then Beaujolais-Villages. He also invested in new equipment and has plans on hand to expand the cellar In 2003 he made the decision to de-stem all the fruit and stop working with whole clusters (but retaining whole berries, thus gentle ferments with a semi-carbonic result), but he still uses the 5,000 and 6,000-liter foudres that his father and grandfather used to age the Morgon VV and Côte du Py. All fermentations continue to be spontaneous. Bright ruby. Spice-accented cherry, black raspberry and floral aromas show fine definition and pick up a hint of smokiness with air. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet red and blue fruit and spice cake flavors that open up and deepen as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins add grip a long, floral-driven finish that echoes the cherry note. 100% Gamay
