Thibaut-Janisson Brut NV

Origin: Monticello
750mL: $29.95 | Sale: $26.95
375mL: $18.95 | Sale: 17.05

Thibaut Janisson is a joint venture between Champagne's Manuel Janisson and globe-trotting winemaker Claude Thibaut. They have captured the flavors and essence of the Virginia Terroir. This Cuvee, from the Monticello Appellation, has vibrant aromas of pear and ripe apples; the taste is perfectly balanced, crisp and refreshing. Thibaut notes that in America, unlike in other parts of the world, Champagne and sparkling wine is reserved for special occasions. He encourages that it should be enjoyed not just for celebrations and noteworthy events, but also as a highly versatile wine that pairs well with an assortment of foods and can stand on its own as a daily pleasure and petite indulgence.

Lubanzi Chenin Blanc 2018

Origin: South Africa
750mL: $16.95 | Sale $15.25
350mL Can: $8.95 | Sale: $8.05

Walker Brown and Charles Brain were American exchange students in South Africa in 2014, from University of Richmond and Vanderbilt, respectively. Together, they embarked on a week-long backpacking expedition along South Africa’s “Wild Coast” and were joined by a wandering dog the locals named “Lubanzi.” South Africa is one of the world’s largest wine producers and probably the most underrated wine region of the world in the US market. Walker and Charles offer well-crafted, everyday wine that punches above its weight and makes a difference in the lives of those who grow it. They have partnered with The Pebbles Project, a non-profit that provides health & education resources directly back to the families who live and work on South Africa’s wine farms.
This beautiful Chenin Blanc offers an intriguing array of fruits on the nose- sliced figs, ripe nectarine and freshly peeled tangerines with a hint of herbaceous rosemary. The palate is round and fleshy, pushing forward ripe citrus fruits like orange, nectarine and a fresh core of green melon. The finish is creamy and long. Also available in cans, for on-the-go and easy outdoor enjoyment.

This boutique winery, nestled in the rolling hills of Northern Virginia just outside of Leesburg, has been in the works since 1998 on 16 acres of land. Whole-cluster pressed and then barrel-fermented in French Oak followed by 10 months of barrel aging with 20% new oak, this Burgundian-style Chardonnay is made from 100% estate grown grapes and owner/winemaker produced. It’s a wonderfully balanced Chardonnay that walks the line between a fresh-fruited, low-oak style and a creamy, barrel-fermented style. An ideal pairing with salmon, Manchego cheese, or white pizzas.

King Family Mountain Plains 2016

Origin: Monticello
Retail: $67.95
| Sale $61.15

King Family Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Crozet, Virginia just fifteen minutes from Charlottesville. The name Mountain Plains was first written in a deed drafted in 1773 by Thomas Jefferson to transfer the ownership of a land grant farm established in 1737. After careful selection of the ripest fruit from their best vineyard blocks, the grapes were hand-sorted and then de-stemmed. After pressing, the wines were aged separately for 22 months in new barrels from the Tronçais oak forest in Central France, specially selected for their tight grained wood to impart fine tannins, and a well-integrated oak profile. Rich, dense layers of complexity and a powerful sense of structure promises a wine that will reward extended cellaring. Enjoy now, through 2025 and beyond.
