Sofia Brescia Veneto Bianco Frizzante NV

Origin: Veneto, Italy
Retail:
$14.95 | Sale: $13.46

When Mary first fell in love with wine in the early 1990’s, it was the European classics that truly spoke to her and stole her heart. As a young professional selling French and Italian wine, first in the New York wine auctions and then as a merchant, she quickly learned to appreciate wine in the “Old World” way, not as a luxury good reserved for special occasions, but a living agricultural product that belongs to everyday life. In the traditional spirit of the “Old World,” each Mary Taylor Wine has been selected as a faithful ambassador of its geographical origin, true to local traditions and the vision of the individual farmer who bottled it. Veneto represents a transition between the alpine, Germano-Slavic end of Italy and the warmer, drier, more Roman lands to the south. Frizzante wine is a lower pressure than Spumante wine.  Sofia Brescia is a name given to honor previous generations of wine growers, many of whom were women that have been forgotten by historical naming conventions. Citrus, Asian pear, Acacia honey, Jasmine, and a touch of sea salt all grace the nose and palate of this charming frizzante. 60% Glera, 40% Garganega

Sapiddu Catarratto Frizzante 2023

Origin
: Sicily, Italy
Retail:
$24.95 | $22.46

Sapiddu means “who knows” in english. This is a very fitting name because there is no information out there on this wine anywhere. What we do know is that the wine is made on the western portion of the island of Sicily and one of partners in the project is winemaker at Domenico Clerico, Oscar Arrivabene.  The artist who designed the label is Filippo Minelli, a contemporary artist working internationally, exploring the modern landscape and its dynamics through installations and performances documented through photos and videos. His practice focuses on the liminal spaces and geographical areas of the post-globalization world. Aromas of orange peel and preserved lemon. Super fresh and lively on the palette with a long spicy finish. 100% Catarratto

Montenidoli Chianti Colli Senesi  Il Garrulo 2020

Origin: Tuscany, Italy
Retail:
$24.95 | Sale: $22.46

Montenidoli is a mountain above the appellation of San Gimignano. It is a large estate of roughly 200 hectares, though just 24 hectares are under vine, on a mountainside overlooking the picturesque town of San Gimignano with Chianti Classico in the distance. Elisabetta Fagiuoli is a pivotal figure when talking about the last 50 years of Tuscan winemaking. In fact, 2020 marked her 50th vintage. Many people think of Vernaccia di San Gimignano as a simple white wine meant to be consumed fresh and young, but the whites of Montenidoli prove that does not have to be the case. Named after a pesky local bird and the sound of chirping chit-chat with friends, this red blended from local Tuscan varieties is full of bright, ripe cherries and finishes with a rustic earthiness that rounds out the flavors. It goes especially well with the classic Italian tomato-based dishes, and also with spicy foods. 80% Sangiovese and 20% Canaiuolo

Pietraventosa ‘Volere Volare’ Primitivo 2023

Origin: Puglia, Italy
Retail:
$19.95 | Sale: $17.96

Founded in 2005, Agricole Pietraventosa immediately became one the most representative wineries in the territory of the Gioia del Colle Primitivo Doc. The terroir is a relevant element, firmly impressed in its wines. Harmoniously produced with its own grapes and in compliance with organic production protocols (certified by ICEA ), Pietraventosa wines are identified with a strong personality closely linked to the rugged Murgia territory. Volere Volare leads with aromas of tilled earth, geranium and Mediterranean scrub, rising over a pure, concentrated core of fresh blackberry and currant.  Pairs dynamically with Asian barbeque or Moroccan cuisine. 100% Primitivo
