Mary Taylor “Gaillacoise” Pétillant Naturel (Rémi Larroque) NV
Origin: France
Retail: $26.95 | Sale: $24.25
Mary Taylor has an incredible success story, landing her the title of largest female importer in America. Not only is her palate incredible, but she is remarkable in her ability to find true-to-form wines that are incredibly budget friendly. For this reason, her chosen wines are typically named after the appellation where they are made, this particular sparkling hailing from Gaillac in Southwest France. Created with 100% Mauzac grapes in the “Méthode Ancestrale” (single fermentation method), this is a very fun wine bursting with dried green apple skins and honey.
Claudio Mariotto “Derthona” 2023
Origin: Italy
Retail: $30.95 | Sale: $27.85
Claudio Mariotto is the third generation Mariotto to produce wines on his family estate in the southeast corner of Piemonte. The Timorasso grape has been mostly abandoned outside of this vineyard, but they continue to produce stunning vintages of this single varietal with exceptional quality. Fresh but herbaceous and floral with a toasted almond finish. The body is medium weight, dry, and refreshing, but namely we are a fan of its complexity. An excellent sipping wine, this is perfect as an aperitif or with fish and cheese.
Antiquum “Daisy” Pinot Gris 2023
Origin: Oregon
Retail: $40.95 | Sale: $36.85
At the Locke Store, we’re huge fans of Antiquum Farm - not just because their wines are incredible, but because they are truly committed to sustainable farming. Soil is restored using grazing based viticulture, so the need to replenish nutrients is eliminated by the “movements” of goats and pigs. The site itself is also perfect for the climate of Willamette Valley, sitting 800 feet above sea level and facing the South. This Pinot Gris is named after the owners’ daughter- the original and accidental reason for their use of grazing (she just loves chickens!). This wine is textured, with citrus zest, ginger, salinity, jasmine, and white peach.
Antico Monastero Barolo 2020
Origin: Italy
Retail: $44.95 | Sale: $40.45
Barolo on a budget without compromising flavor! This varietal is composed of 100% Nebbiolo grapes and grown in the Piedmont region of Italy. Medium-bodied with medium fruit (though we recommend decanting this one if you’d like the fruit to be more pronounced), the profile boasts cherry, black currant, and tobacco. This is an excellent pairing with lamb, ossobuco, and game.
